Connecting with the Land:
Experiencing the Contemplative in Nature
Saturday May 25th, 2024,
4:00 to 5:00 pm
This one hour “thought exchange” began with a reading from Saskatchewan’s Poet Laureate, dee Hobsbawn-Smith, who selected works that reflect her relationship with the land. We often feel disconnected from nature, and too busy with minutiae to notice it. In this context, this conversation explored how we can find our way back to nature. dee, along with Knowledge Keeper, Lyndon Linklater, and Green Priest, Shawn Sanford Beck, shared their inspirational and intimate experiences in the ways they connect with the land and their spiritual lives. This panel was moderated by Rev. Nobuko Iwai.
Panellists: dee Hobsbawn-Smith, Lyndon Linklater, Shawn Sanford Beck.

Embodying the Spiritual
Sunday May 26th, 2024,
1:30 to 2:30 pm
For many, the creation of art is an intensely spiritual experience in which the artist attempts to pass on that experience through their artistic practice. In this one-hour panel, we explored how a sculptor, Lee Fuller, a dancer, Miki Mappin, a singer-songwriter Coco Love Alcorn, and a spiritual director, Shelly Manley-Tannis, use art to bring deeper meaning to their lives and the lives of their audiences. What does it mean for each of these creators to “embody the spiritual” in their work? How does embodying the spiritual necessitate taking action in the world? This panel was moderated by Brenda Baker.
Panellists: Coco Love Alcorn, Lee Fuller, Miki Mappin, and Shelly Manley-Tannis.
Moderator: Brenda Baker.
